Connecting disadvantaged young people to employment
Situation
The Prince's Trust runs multiple award-winning programmes that creates pathways for young people to employment. We were appointed through competitive tender to facilitate the discovery and design phase for the best way to effectively connect young people aged 16-30 to available jobs as they come to the end of their employability pathway through a digital "connection to employment" solution. Key to this facilitation was the engagement of a youth board that would co-develop the digital solution through a series of co-creation session designed by our partners, the youth Engagement Consultancy Living Proof.
Our Approach
The discovery and design process of this solution involved integrating insights from various sources including:
Desk-based research into similar digital employment solutions.
Youth Board comprised of youth representatives and drew insights from their respective networks.
Employer survey and employer consultations.
Testing of our ideas with the Prince's Trust every week
As a result of these insights, the project team selected 9 potential features for further assessment. Three of them were ultimately prioritised for the first release of the platform and grouped into the following capabilities:
A curated personalised action plan that supports a young person throughout their application process, blending feedback from the live event into tangible outputs in the digital solution
A mock and job Interview feedback that includes an interactive booking system for interviews with employers through the digital platform, and the access to quantifiable and qualitative feedback for the candidate, employer and The Prince's Trust to facilitate further support based on the outcomes of these interviews
Our Impact
We helped the trust create a digital application to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Get hired programme and encourage employees to engage with The Prince’s' Trust young people. The trust is currently redesigning key workflows and systems to enable the delivery of this digital solution for later this year.
