Health patients user satisfaction: asking a few simple questions

Patient satisfaction has fallen within the National Health Service. In the latest wave of the British Social Attitudes survey, public satisfaction with the health service overall fell from 60% to 55% driven by longer waiting times, staff shortages, and funding cuts. In addition, staff morale is an increasing concern; in 2014 a survey conducted by the NHS and the Picker Institute found that only 44% of NHS staff reported that they were satisfied with how their organisation values their work, and only just over one in three (37%) were satisfied with their levels of pay. Leaders Series: Noel Gordon Non-Executive Director of NHS England

This month we interviewed Noel Gordon, Non-Executive Director of the NHS and Chair of Specialised Services Commissioning Committee, as part of our Leaders Series. After an early career focused on corporate restructuring, Noel was first exposed to social entrepreneurship at Ashoka, where he then became involved in consulting and mentoring a diverse range of social entrepreneurs.

We discussed the major transformations and innovations taking place in the NHS today, as well as how his past experiences in the private sector contributed to his work and insight in the social sector.
